Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Coro Lux, (“Chorus of Light”) and the United Church of Santa Fe are co-sponsoring a weekend choral festival featuring internationally-known composer Libby Larsen as headliner, and honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Led by Artistic Director Bradley Ellingboe, the festival will be held in Santa Fe at the United Church (1804 Arroyo Chamiso) on Saturday and Sunday, January 19 & 20, 2019 (MLK weekend). Please click here for a detailed festival schedule. Please click here for biographies.

The intent of this event is to build the skills of interested choral singers, active in both civic and church choirs. All the repertoire will be by Libby Larsen, and will relate to the themes of social justice and equality so eloquently expressed in the words and work of Dr. King. Included in the repertoire is a brand new piece by Libby, written specially for this event!

As you’ll note in the schedule of events, there will also be two workshops by Kathleen Wilson (Professor of Voice, Florida International University), a noted pedagog. Dr. Wilson will soon be a full-time resident of Santa Fe and we look forward to welcoming her to northern New Mexico.

The cost will be $65 per singer, which includes the price of sheet music, as well as everything you see on the schedule. The weekend culminates in a concert, including readings from Dr. King and others, remarks from Libby Larsen and Rev. Talitha Arnold and a bit of group singing for those in the audience. The concert is free, all expenses having been covered by registration fees and other donations, allowing the proceeds of the free-will offering to benefit Casa Familia in Santa Fe and the Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque.
