El Faro Youth Chorus
El Faro (“The Lighthouse”) Youth Chorus is an outreach program of Coro Lux providing high-quality choral music education and performance experiences to young people of the Albuquerque area. El Faro shines a light on the rich cultural heritage of New Mexico through music. We believe that New Mexico’s future leaders should learn about our past while building their confidence through performance in the present. El Faro is a safe, fun, and inviting space for music-making and voice building for youth from 2nd through 12th grade. We are currently accepting new singers through August 31st. There is no audition necessary. Email quiara@abqcorolux.org for more information about joining.
About El Faro

El Faro is gearing up for an unforgettable season of singing, performing, and learning with some amazing musicians! This year, we’ll rehearse with talented guest artists from Santa Fe Desert Chorale, explore Scandinavian vocal music with our own Brad Ellingboe, and welcome Dr. Rollo Dilworth during Coro Lux’s annual FebFest. In the Spring, El Faro singers will join Coro Lux, orchestra, and special guest performers for a spectacular 300th anniversary performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. We’ll then welcome the Tucson Girls Chorus to Albuquerque for a festival choir experience over Memorial Day Weekend. Come sing with us, make new friends, and be part of something great!
El Faro Youth Chorus rehearses on Mondays from 4:15pm-6:30pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church (1100 Indian School Rd., NE). We follow the APS holiday schedule.”
If you’re interested in learning more, please contact El Faro‘s director, Joe Mitchell, at joe@abqcorolux.org.
We sing music in a wide variety of styles, and we learn about many cultures, languages, and historical periods through our repertoire. We also learn about breathing, body awareness, vocal health, and stage presence, and of course, we learn how to read and understand music. Music and singing are wonderful ways of sharing our own stories and the stories of people long ago, far away, right here, and right now. Young people have an amazing capacity to expand their own perspectives and grow their own voices through the music they learn, and that is exactly our intention and our purpose in El Faro.
